MORT METERSKY - Fine Art Photographer
My philosophy of photography is to “KEEP IT SIMPLE, INTERESTING and COLORFUL”. I look for pieces of the whole that might make an interesting image, rather than the whole object. For example, a knot on a tree or a rusty area of a junked freight car. In essence, I look for what I consider no one would give a second thought. I call it “abandoned art”.
Many things catch my eye, especially objects that are red, my favorite color. I look to “see” if there is anything of interest worth photographing.
Many objects have no apparent color, like a piece of plywood on the ground. However, through experience, I have discovered that many objects have colors in them that are not visible to the naked eye. So I look beyond what is visible. I have learned that I can bring out an objects’ innate colors by manipulating the image in Adobe Photoshop.
I love color and most, but not all of my images, are quite brightly colored. There are no absolutes in photography and there shouldn’t be. Just like the rules of composition we use to create a pleasing image, they can be broken depending on the situation.
I am eclectic in my approach to photography. My images can be real, surreal or abstract. Can you tell which is which? I must admit, though, that I am attracted to abstract images because it forces me to look deeply into the image when I struggle to give it a name.
In summary, I attempt to provide a work of art that is original, attractive to the eye, and at the same time, “talks” to some one. Not every one will find my art meaningful to them. I don’t expect all people to like all my work, but hopefully some will like some of my images.

My goal as a photographer is to hopefully have my images appreciated as an attempt to create art through the lens of my camera. I am interested in whatever catches my eye. That is why I call myself an eclectic photographer I look for objects within a subject, e. g., pieces of the side of a rusted freight car.
My serious photography started when I joined the Newtown Camera Club (NCC) 14 years ago. After joining NCC and participating in club competitions, getting critiques of my photographs, viewing what the other members of the club were doing, and being mentored by top photographers, my “seeing eye” started to develop. I have won many firsts, one Best Print of the Year and many other awards during my 10 years. I had the honor and privilege of being club President for two years.
My work has been exhibited at the Martin Gallery at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, where one of my images was on the catalog cover and the Daily Grind in Hatboro, PA, as a member of “Artists Coming Together.” I had a one man show at Bell’s Tavern in Lambertville, N. J. and won an Honorable Mention at the Churchville, PA, Camera Club’s Juried Show.
In club competition, I have garnered a Best Print of the Year, several “Best of Show” and many First Place ribbons and other awards.
